The Veterans Enterprise Training & Services Group (VETS Group) is a non-profit 501(c) 3, community-based organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. We provide a holistic program for Veterans and their families to achieve Economic Empowerment through Education, Entrepreneurship, and Employment. Assistance with affordable housing, family strengthening, and health rehabilitation is also offered. The VETS Group conducts training seminars on Federal Procurement, Small Business Development; education in Financial Literacy: Credit Repair, Banking, Money Management and Identity Theft; and is now in the process of implementing an initiative to identify procurement opportunities for Veterans in the Airport Industry. Partnerships are being formed with large corporate enterprises to offer Veterans employment opportunities, business education, mentoring, technical assistance, growth capital, and access to international markets.
Joe Wynn, President
Serving the veterans community for 20 years; Joe serves as the Legislative Liaison for the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS). He was appointed to the Veterans Disability Benefits Commission by Leader Nancy Pelosi. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee for the NAACP; a member of the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Board for the District of Columbia; and has received recognition awards for his advocacy for veterans from the Small Business Administration, the NAACP, VET-Force, Blacks in Government and the United Black Fund. To further assist veterans seeking to start or expand their own small businesses, Joe founded the Veterans Enterprise Training & Services Group (VETS Group), a nonprofit organization, offering small business and employment training, and supportive services for veterans interested in starting or expanding their own small businesses. He continues to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer. Joe continues to manage the VETS Group, a non-profit organization which he founded in 2004 to address the unmet needs of veterans seeking to start or expand their own small businesses. The VETS Group provides entrepreneurial education, federal procurement training, employment assistance, financial literacy and other supportive services primarily for veterans, people with disabilities and persons of limited means.
Rhonda Smith, Program Director
Ms. Rhonda Smith, is the owner and managing partner of Renaissance Solution – a firm that specializes in working with small to medium size businesses, to help identify and develop the operational and marketing strategies that will generate the most significant return on investment. Ms. Smith has spent the last 15 years refining her business acumen in both the Public and Private sectors. She brings a vast reserve of knowledge and expertise in re-shaping your business model to capitalize on both tactical and strategic initiatives. She employs a total solutions approach to doing business – ranging from business development, account management, and sourcing to recruiting. This approach serves to drive out mediocrity and systematically fosters best in class orientation. Her proactive, entrepreneurial approach to business, coupled with her results-oriented demeanor, provides a strong foundation for development of a business “center of excellence.” She has successfully coached managers, directors and senior executives at all levels of the organization in both individual and group settings. She employs a total solutions approach to doing business – ranging from project management, business development, account management, and recruiting. Rhonda is both an Army and Air Force Veteran.
Eddie Jones, Director of Veteran Services/Community Outreach
Vera Batey, Student Advisor/ Case Manager
Miss Batey provides assistance and individualized attention to promote each student’s success at the VETS Group. She conducts assessments of students’ personal living and social activities, including employment, health and financial status. She also reviews school policies, program requirements, and procedures with individual students, then provides assistance with identifying study tools, and personal supportive services. She advises School Director and Administrator of students’ goals and career path. Assists students with developing individual career goals and course training plan. Reviews students’ academic progress reports and compares to student’s individual training plan.
Miss Batey also provides presentations to student groups and guests on topics related to study techniques, city social services, job search strategies and interview techniques.
Queen Jones, Enrollment/ Outreach Specialist
Miss Jones conducts interviews for incoming potential students. Supervises staff pertaining to office duties. She is also responsible for the organization’s outreach and networking activities within the Developmental population, which includes contributing ideas and leads for identifying new referral sources and providing the necessary follow ups. Miss Jones is responsible for connecting with local community based professional organizations. She is expected to travel to various community activities as well as plan and coordinate outreach activities in designated areas that are intended to identify, capture the attention and interest of veterans and non-veteran community that meet the requirements of the program.
Sarah Chouki, Web Developer
Freshly graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an Information Technology Degree, holder of a Web Design Certificate, and a member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Miss Chouki has been working for the VETS Group for over a year, maintaining and keeping our websites up to date for an experience as sleek as possible for the visitor. Miss Chouki has also been creating marketing material and advertising our company on social media.
