Women in Technology (WINTECH)
Project 2024-25
This project is designed to increase the number of underrepresented populations of women in the tech industry within the Greater Washington Metro Area. These populations include military women veterans, spouses, and women of color (Blacks, Latinos, and other minorities). Project activities will inform these women about the benefits and opportunities of career pathways to enter or expand their skills for high demand occupations in the Information Technology (IT) industry. Employers associated with this project will receive technical assistance in setting up registered apprenticeship programs and/or structured training programs for selected IT roles.
Participants will connect, learn, and grow through a wide array of resources, including nationally-recognized certifications, registered apprenticeships, networking opportunities, mentors, new technology webinars, and job placement assistance. This project promotes the Good Jobs Principles regarding stability and security for participants and their families. The participants will only be placed in good jobs with employers who recognize that by providing good jobs they will be recognized as an employer that has fair hiring practices, good working conditions, promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, offers career advancement, and a safe working environment.
Our goal is to start or advance 180 women into structured training for IT positions and an additional 40 women in registered apprenticeships.
